Tour Details

Dear visitors, we are pleased to guide you through the beautiful city of Berat. During the tour, we will visit cultural monuments, especially religious buildings and historic neighborhoods, all set against a stunning landscape.

We offer an interpretation of the historical circumstances that have shaped the buildings we will explore.

This tour is exciting and enlightening, and provides many explanations about historical phenomena that are reflected in various cities of the Balkans.

We will begin our tour in the city center, in front of the Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Demetrius. We will walk from the modern part of Berat towards the historic center, passing through the Mangalem neighborhood. Then, we will visit the Medieval Center and the pasha’s palaces.

Itinerary

First StopThe square in front of the church of Saint Demetrius

We will meet in front of the Church of Saint Demetrius in the city center. The Lead Mosque is next to the church, and for this reason, the square is also known as the Square of Religious Harmony.

Second StopThe Republika Bulevard

Next, we will stroll through the city center and along the Republika Bulevard. There we can witness the most recent history of Berat reflected in the historic buildings and monuments.

Third StopThe Mangalem Quarter

At the end of the Republika Bulevard, we will stop in front of the Mangalem neighborhood where we can enjoy some of its most famous views. A picturesque and very interesting monument is the Bachelors’ Mosque with its fascinating history that the locals love to tell.

Fourth StopThe Medieval Center

Our next destination is the medieval center. It was once the cultural and spiritual center of the city of Berat. There we will be able to explore up close Muslim spirituality, mainly reflected in the Sufi sect. The King’s Mosque is located near Helveti Tekke and its stories take us along some very interesting historical paths.

Fifth StopThe viewpoint of Mangalem

Next, we will stroll through the winding streets of Mangalem, also known as the Quarter of a “Thousand Windows”. We will take a close look at medieval architecture and learn about the social and economic conditions that defined the architecture of historic buildings and the lifestyles of the people. In Mangalem we will arrive at the Mangalem viewpoint where we will enjoy beautiful views of the city from above.

Sixth StopThe Gorica Quarter

Next, we will walk to the Gorica neighborhood via the famous Gorica Bridge. The neighborhood has a unique, homogeneous architecture and offers some of the most impressive views in the Mangalem neighborhood.
